This week I'm letting you peek into my inbox, as I take the opportunity to answer some questions recently sent by subscribers. Of course, I answered all of these questions directly as soon as we received them, but I thought some of the answers might be of interest to you, too.
Q: Where do you get all your recipes?
Cynthia F., Raleigh, NC
Aviva: Dear Cynthia, As you'll see from this week's menu, many Scramble recipes originate from my family, friends or Scramble subscribers. I do my best to "Scramblify" every recipe to make it easier, healthier, and hopefully even more delicious. My family is the first "tester". If my family loves the recipe, then I send it to official Scramble recipe testers around the country to make sure they love it, too. As someone who always has food on the brain, I also create many recipes from scratch and get occasional surges of inspiration from restaurants and magazines.
Q: I'm really enjoying my membership so far, so instead of renewing for another 3 months when my membership expires, I'd like to renew for a year. How do I do that?
Alex W., Frederick, MD
Aviva: Dear Alex, I am so glad you want to save money and stick with The Scramble by purchasing a longer subscription! The best way to make that change is for you to log in to the site (www.thescramble.com) and select your profile, then click the box on the top right that will allow you to change your renewal status to one year instead of 3 months.
Q: Where is the recipe box that Kathryn mentioned in her column recently (Vol. 262)? I have never seen it and it sounds great!
Allison S., Washington, DC
Aviva: Dear Allison, you do have your very own Scramble recipe box! To use it, you need to log in to The Scramble website with your email address and password (If you can't remember your password, there's a link there to reset it.) As soon as you log in, you will see your recipe box near the top right of the page, above the thick green bar. You can use the recipe box to save favorite recipes, so you can easily find them again or use them to create a custom menu in the future.
Q: I'm wondering if there's a way to customize the menu and then selectively print recipes while still printing the customized grocery list. There are lots of recipes that I already have in paper and, in an effort not to waste paper, don't really need to reprint, but still would like the grocery list.
Jen G., Washington, DC
Aviva: Dear Jen, I'm so glad you are trying to reduce the amount of paper you use. To print only some pages of your menu, select your printer options and type in the pages that you want to print, rather than using the default setting, "print all".
Q: I've had some trouble with the custom menu plans. Once I make one, I can't change it. Searching on new recipes and saying "add to custom menu" just starts a new custom menu. It's pesky.
Rachel S., Seattle, WA
Aviva: Dear Rachel, we have noticed a few glitches ourselves in this new feature, and our brilliant programmer, Sarah, is working on solutions this week. We'll keep you posted, and thanks for your help identifying the issues with the saved custom menus.
